Would like to ask if it’s safe to consume Stinging nettle root if I am already taking terazosin?

What confuses me is that each article is invariably sub-captioned “clinically proven” but in the article itself, the word “may” is used more often to describe the benefits of this herb. Moreover, it is said at many places that more research is needed to prove its usefulness.

I feel convinced that Allopathic doctors are biased against the health benefits of herbal and homeopathic medicines. Naturally, they would not like to deprive themselves of material benefits, which are associated with allopathy. The trillion dollar world health system will not let dollars sway away that easily.

Any comments?

Hi Donald, no–stinging nettle should not make weight loss harder. Oxidation is a process by which free radicals can damage many important molecules in your body, including fats. This does not refer to stored fat, as in fat mass. It mostly refers to fats in your cell walls and small fatty particles in your bloodstream (like LDL). When these fats are “oxidized” by free radicals, they become dangerous and can clog arteries. In this sense, stinging nettle protects against oxidative stress/tissue damage. It doesn’t negatively affect fat loss.

Losing water weight is fake weight loss, real weight loss is from fat loss, so Nettle Leaf makes true weight loss even more harder?

Hi Rev,
We always aim for comprehensiveness and we would gladly include information about long-term safety if it was available. However, clinical research on many botanicals is limited and so is the long-term safety research in animals. We always point this out in the limitations section. No doubt, additional clinical research focusing on chronic use would be an important contribution to our knowledge. But unfortunately, it’s not available, which means that any mention of it would be misleading.

Especially herbs which can be very effective for short term doses, but not good for long term use – stinging nettle included.

I personally want to know if I can add something to my regime for LONG TERM USE or use it for SHORT TERM USE ONLY. It’s a consideration that should be added to literally every single substance you review, and actually quite irresponsible to not add it.

Many times (and again just recently) I’ve discovered that a “safe” herb (or any substance) that has been in a supplement is indeed safe for SHORT TERM USE ONLY. But long term use has detrimental effects on XYZ. Again, herbs especially can be extremely powerful and not meant for long term use.

I actually came to this article because I googled “STINTING NETTLE LONG TERM SAFETY”.. Not exactly sure why it showed your article as you make no reference to long term at all. However you seem to want to be thorough, so to do that I suggest you stop overlooking the extremely important aspect of LONG TERM/SHORT TERM SAFETY…for EVERYTHING YOU REVIEW. Until you do, your reviews are woefully incomplete.

At the moment he is in a field with some stinging nettles, and I notice that he is digging up and eating the roots. In fact, that is what led me to this website. Animals are so much wiser than us , when it comes to self medicating. I will always make sure he had access to nettles from now on.

It might be worth clarifying that it is the ROOT of stinging nettle that has the most benefit for BPH and hormonal modulation. Nettle leaf, whilst great as a general tonic, is not very effective for BPH or hormonal modulation.
Unfortunately it aggravated the urinary symptoms of my chronic prostatitis (increased bladder pressure and constant need to urinate got worse), but many other men benefit a great deal from it.
Tinctures of nettle seed are also very potent.
