Hi Sara, we are not against the use of this drug when prescribed by a doctor. We list all side effects so that people are aware of what can possibly happen, but that does not mean that all people will experience the side effects. Nardil is approved medication and can help some people if prescribed and monitored by a trained physician.

Honestly, a lot of people are actually incapable (for the most part) of triggering that dreaded hypertensive crisis everyone is so freaked out about. I couldn’t do it at all, even while on the maximum dose of it and abusing hard stimulants due to still needing augmentation due to persistent low mood and social anxiety. If this med weren’t so ridiculously feared and hated, someone would have just bit the bullet and given me 105mg or 120, instead of relying upon augmentation strategies. The FDA’s maximum dosage recommendations are just recommendations, after all. They’re not law.

It’s sad, so many doctors are not trained in the use of Nardil and Parnate due to the fear of using them, rarely knowing much more about them than the bare minimum, because of the exaggerated myths and fears about their side effects. Some of these doctors a mere patient like me could run laps around in terms of being knowledgeable about at least Nardil. Hell, one doctor didn’t even know it could be used for anxiety and corrected me when it was I that was actually correct! this in the context of having asked for them to increase the dose back to 90mg from 60 as we were talking about meds to help with my anxiety and they had just went ahead and lowered it for God knows what reason upon reinitiating treatment with it while I was inpatient. And, no, they had no plans to titrate back up. I had to ask three doctors there over the course of a week and a half to re-increase the dose. One even stated to me “I don’t like Nardil, I’m not going to up it.” All because of the mindset of people like you.
