Quest and LabCorp don’t appear to have an individual test for LPS-binding protein. Can you recommend the best way to test for LPS or LBP?? Thanks!

Thank you for the suggestion! We are in the process of updating our older articles and I’ll definitely add this one to the list. :)

Hi there,
We hear ya. The only reason you should stick to a diet is perhaps to figure out what will improve your health and make you feel 100% healthy. It wouldn’t be in your best interest to give you health advice publicly based on these pieces of information. We would love to do a full work-up on you over a consult. You can book a consultation with one of our consultants here: https://selfhacked.com/consult-specialists/.

This article seems to coincide with the Low-Dose LPS hypothesis with (Turkey Tail) mushroom and its benefits to the immune system –

Hi Neville,

Thank you for bringing that research to our attention. I have added it to the article.

There are definitely ways to maintain a ketogenic diet while keeping inflammation low. Many of the studies above implicate long-chain saturated fats in elevated LPS levels, so I would focus on mono- and polyunsaturated fats (fish, olive oil, sesame oil, nuts, etc.) and medium chain triglycerides, which are saturated fats but do not induce chylomicron formation and thus likely keep LPS transport low. Two other points: 1) None of the participants in these studies were on a ketogenic diet, so it’s hard to generalize the results to someone in ketosis given the host of metabolic adaptations that occur in keto. 2) Many of the high fat meals/diets also contained a fair amount of carbohydrates, which would obviously not be the case on a ketogenic diet. The absorption of carbs+fat may be different than fat alone. If you feel like a ketogenic diet was your best option before reading, I would let this article inform your food choices rather than completely deter you.

It seems he’s against olive oil since it’s liquid fat but the study above says it helps.

It makes me now wonder if a high fat diet approach is the best course of action in order to avoid grains/sugary foods – as i was planning.
People on ketogenic diets on the whole report feeling much better – yet surely LPS levels are more sensitive and responsive when on a ketogenic diet?
I have bad reactive hypoglycemia with low BP 80/55 average (low cortisol adrenal production, test confirmed – i dont use cortisol steroids – trying to ‘heal’ this if possible) I was thinking of switching to a ketogenic diet, as im vegetarian so paleo would be limiting and impractical.

My liver function is bad. Toxicity is a problem therefore. I try to detox but since adrenal function failure of cortisol, fasting is dodgy…inciting adrenal crisis crashes. I don’t produce glycogen – i know this for sure because a carb snack causes reactive hypo’s, sweating, shaking, collapse. I have to eat FAT to recover from this. If i try sugar to get me out of a hypo, reactive hypo happens again. Why do my sugar levels disappear so rapidly? My liver is not helping me out with glycogen – i have tested it and waited during a hypo – i get worse. I don’t have diabetes…Normal sugar values of around 6-8. I start to hypo at (remarkably high level of) 5 and below.
LPS now give me a reason to not go ketogenic….i’m out of options! Any ideas folks? I can’t do fruits, sugar, grains, gluten, meat. What on earth to eat that this body handles?
