I’ve been very interested in the studies on adenosine, as I suspect menopause has affected my own adenosine. I’m on HRT, and have tried the usual remedies, but nothing works. Before menopause, I used to get extremely tired at bedtime and had lovely, deep sleep, waking up refreshed. Melatonin, 5-HTP, and GABA receptor medications don’t work well. Melatonin and 5-HTP work to put me to sleep, but I wake up feeling tired the whole next day (even at extremely low doses). I suspect my condition is more related to adenosine. The only time since menopause that I have been able to sleep like I used to was when I was quitting coffee. The adenosine build up I had for a day allowed me to sleep beautifully. I’ve been off caffeine for a year and haven’t felt like that since. Do you know what studies are being done on adenosine and adenosine receptors and whether or not there might be some promising medications?

I seem to have very low sleep pressure, sometimes waking 20 minutes after I go to bed. This happens even when I’m exhausted before bedtime and can barely stay awake in the evening. It looks like I have problematic gene SNPs for deep sleep. A problem with adenosine? My cortisol is also flat, so I’m taking holy basil and hawthorn to normalize cortisol and reduce adrenaline.
